About Us
CraftMass
CraftMass is a new endeavor celebrating and supporting people coming together to create in community. From makerspaces to farm cooperatives, art collectives, community theaters, barn raisings and even street painting block parties we can create amazing things and build relationships when we work and create together. When people come together we can do amazing things!
Our Story
We believe that creating, crafting, building and making can be an important part of the human experience and one that is often best in and around others. For much of history working together has been an essential part of the human experience.
A recent Harvard University project explored where people are finding community today. While traditional communities of faith and profession have seen declining attendance new communities have begun forming to meet the needs of people to gather and work.
CraftMass was launched to acknowledge and support communities with a focus on creation.
Our Mission
The CraftMass mission is to promote community participation in artistic and fabrication activities, support the formation of such communities, and provide education in the creation and practices of creative communities.
Our Team
Derek Seabury founded CraftMass in 2018 to explore how building in community brings people together and how it can happen more often. With degrees in engineering, decades of business consulting, a book, and a patent under his belt he still is most excited by the transformative moment when someone realizes the have a new skill they can use.
